Not every tyre problem is a nail. When a tyre keeps going soft, the steering shakes or a warning light won’t go off, our fitter finds the cause and fixes it where the car is parked.

If a tyre keeps losing air and there is no nail in the tread, the leak is usually somewhere else. We inflate the tyre and go over it with soapy water: the tread, the valve and the bead, where the tyre seals against the wheel. Bubbles show us exactly where the air is escaping.
Bead leaks are common on older alloy wheels. Road salt and moisture cause corrosion on the rim edge, so the tyre no longer seals properly. We take the tyre off, clean the rim back to bare metal, apply bead sealer and refit the tyre. Valves are the next most likely cause. Rubber valves perish over the years and the small valve core can work loose, both of which let air out slowly.
Cold mornings can also make it look like a leak. Tyre pressure drops by about 1 PSI for every 5 to 6°C fall in temperature, so a tyre set in summer can be low by the first frost. We check for a real fault before suggesting any work.
Found a nail or screw instead? That’s a job for our mobile puncture repair service.
Tyre off, rim cleaned of corrosion, bead sealer applied and tyre refitted to stop slow air loss.
New rubber valves, or new seals and cores for sensor valves, fitted and leak tested.
We test pressure sensors, fit service kits and reset the system so the warning light clears.
Wheels spun and re-weighted on our balancer to stop vibration and uneven tyre wear.
Lost or damaged key? We remove the nut with specialist tools without damaging the alloy.
Uneven wear on the tyre edges often points to tracking. We show you the pattern and advise on alignment.
Every wheel and tyre has slight heavy spots. Small weights on the rim even them out so the wheel spins smoothly. Those weights can drop off after a pothole or a kerb strike, and you feel it as a shake through the steering wheel, usually between 50 and 70 mph. We rebalance the wheel on our machine and fit new weights in a few minutes per wheel.
Rubber valves harden and crack with age and heat. A cracked valve may only leak when the wheel is turning, which is why some leaks are hard to find at home. We replace rubber valves with every new tyre and can change them on their own if needed. Metal valves fitted with pressure sensors have their own seals and cores, which we replace with a service kit.
Cars sold new in the UK since late 2014 have tyre pressure monitoring. Some measure pressure with a sensor inside each wheel; others work it out from wheel speed through the ABS. If the light stays on after you’ve set the pressures, the system may need a reset or a sensor may have failed. Sensor batteries last several years, and we can test them on site.
If our checks show the tyre itself is the problem, such as a bulge or a cut, we deal with it straight away through our tyre replacement service. Locking wheel nut removal is often the first step in any of these jobs when the key has gone missing. Our tyre safety guide explains how to check pressures between visits.
| Soft every few days | Bead corrosion or a perished valve. We leak test, then clean and reseal or replace the valve |
|---|---|
| Shake at 50 to 70 mph | Wheel out of balance or a lost weight. We rebalance the wheel |
| Light stays on | Low pressure, a sensor fault or the system needs a reset. We test and reset |
| Edge of tyre worn | Tracking or alignment out. We show you and advise on alignment |
| Nut won’t turn | Seized or locking nut with no key. We remove it safely |
| Leak after kerb strike | Bead knocked out of its seat or a damaged rim edge. We inspect and reseat |
If we find the tyre itself is damaged beyond repair, we tell you on the spot and can fit a replacement in the same visit.
Every two weeks and before a long trip, with the tyres cold.
The correct pressures are on the driver's door pillar, in the fuel flap or in the handbook.
Use the higher figure when the car is full of passengers or luggage.
A tyre that needs topping up more than once a month has a fault worth finding. Catching it early stops uneven wear and protects the tyre.
We test before we fix, so you don't pay for parts you don't need.
Balancer, leak testing, TPMS tools and nut removal sockets on every job.
You get a price before we start, and it doesn't change.
Pressures set, another leak test, and advice on what to watch over the next week.
Call or WhatsApp and tell us what the car is doing, which tyre and when it started.
The fitter checks pressures, leak tests the tyre and inspects the wheel and valve.
Bead sealed, valve changed, wheel balanced or nut removed, depending on what we find.
Pressures set, another leak test, and advice on what to watch over the next week.

The most common causes are corrosion on the rim where the tyre seals, a perished or loose valve, or a small object hidden in the tread. A leak test with soapy water shows us which one it is.
Yes. We remove the tyre, clean the corrosion off the rim, apply bead sealer and refit it. This usually stops the leak for good unless the wheel itself is damaged.
Some cars need the system resetting after inflation, and sometimes a sensor has failed or its battery has run down. We test the sensors and reset the system on site.
Yes. Pressure drops by about 1 PSI for every 5 to 6°C fall in temperature, so the first cold morning of autumn often triggers the light. Top the tyres up to the correct pressure when cold and the light should clear.
Yes. We use specialist tools designed to take the nut off without damaging the alloy wheel, then fit a standard nut if you need one.
Usually a wheel that’s out of balance, often because a weight has fallen off. It can also be a bulge in a tyre or a bent wheel. We check all three and rebalance where needed.
Whenever new tyres are fitted, after a tyre is repaired or removed from the wheel, and any time you feel vibration through the steering wheel.
Rubber valves can perish after a few years, which is why we change them every time a new tyre is fitted. Sensor valves need new seals and cores when the tyre is changed.
For short trips with the tyre kept at the right pressure, usually yes. Driving on an underinflated tyre damages it quickly and affects braking, so get it checked within a few days.
We check your tyres for the uneven wear that points to tracking problems and offer 2 and 4 wheel alignment. Ask when you book and we’ll tell you what your car needs.
